Baiyi Nunnery

Begun to be built in the Song Dynasty and renovated in 1982, Baiyi Nunnery, looking on in the distance to Lengyan Temple on the other side of the lake, was a grotto palace constructed in line with physical features of the hill. There are two sayings concerning why it was named as Baiyi Nunnery: one is that in ancient times there was a woman in white who sought refuge here and built a nunnery to cultivate herself; the other is that in the nunnery Goddess of Mercy is enshrined and worshipped. Over ten Buddhist statues like Mother Buddha, Skt. Sakyamuni etc. are consecrated in the hall. Lots of businessmen and masses of people living in the neighbourhood more often than not come here to burn incenses and offer sacrifices in order to get good fortune. On the upper part to the right of Baiyi Nunnery there are some geological vestiges of volcanic activities taking place over one hundred thousand years ago.
